Camps and excursions

Our school offers a wide range of camps, trips and excursions each year. This will give you a brief look at what we have done and is coming up on the calendar for our students.

Year 7 - Term 2

In Term 2 all Year 7 will have the opportunity to attend the annual Year 7 Camp at Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre. The camp will be led by Year 7 teachers and the Sunshine Coast Recreation Team at Currimundi.

Activities during this camp may include bodyboarding, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, giant swing, catapult and circus skills.

The details of the Year 7 camp are as follows:

  • Date:  Normally in June each year
  • Venue: Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre
  • Cost:   TBA (end of Term 1) approx. (including accommodation, transportation, all meals and activities by qualified instructors)

Year 8 - Term 2

Excursion for Year 8 to the Kokoda-style trek up Mt Cootha. Students are encouraged to participate in a one-day activity as it will be an excellent opportunity for team building amoungst the Year 8 cohort, to increase fitness and enjoy the outdoors.

  • Date: One day in June
  • Venue: Mt Cootha Lookout
  • Cost: approx $40 - 50 including - trained coordinators for the trek, bus, morning tea and lunch.
  • Must have: Hat, closed in shoes and water bottle are compulsory.

Sports Excellence Camps Years 8 and 9 - Term 4

Members of the Sports Excellence Program have the opportunity to participate in training and leadership camps.  The aim of the camps is for students to develop leadership skills and resilience in a supportive but challenging environment.

Year 9 class travels to either Runaway Bay Sport and Leadership Centre, or Thunderbird Park, Mt Tamborine, costing approx. $180. 

Year 8 class utilise facilities on North Stradbroke Island, and costs approx. $130. 

The camps occur during the last two weeks of the school year.

Year 11 Ryda Program - Term 2

As you are well aware many Year 11 students will be working towards attaining their Driver’s Licence in the very near future. This can be a worrying time for parents and teachers, as students are often unaware of the dangers they face every day on the road.

As part of our Student Development Programme (SDP), we are pleased to offer all Year 11 students a Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) program.  A fact sheet is available about this course on the RYDA website.

RYDA is a community-based initiative of Rotary Clubs and as a result, we are able to offer this program to our students at a greatly subsidised price. 

  • Cost - approx $30

  • Date - May

  • Where - Sleeman Sport Cemplex, Chandler

  • Dress - Full Day Uniform.

Senior Biology Excursion - Term 3

The senior Biology students required to attend a one day fieldwork program as part of this course as previously advised. This excursion is to be usually held late Term 3 or early Term 4 at the Marine Environments Field Study and Resource Centre at Hastings Point.

During this time, students will be studying two different ecosystems with the help of well-trained and knowledgeable advisors at the centre. The centre also has a museum and equipment that students will use in their studies.

  • Dates: October
  • Cost: TBA.  (This covers transport, accommodation, food, access to resources and expertise of advisors). Not comfirmed price yet!!
