high achieving students in Years 7 – 10. Students in these classes are extended and challenged beyond what is routinely offered in
Science, Technology (Coding) and Maths classes in secondary schools. Rugby League Development Program. This program has been designed to advance skills, improve fitness and a students' knowledge of the game of Rugby League. Continued partnerships with the Wynnum Manly Seagulls and the Brisbane Broncos allow participating students to be provided with current and relevant information to support their future playing goals. Participation in this program is by application only.
English extension classes consist of students in Years 7 - 10 with potential for excellence, who have particular capabilities in reading, writing, and speaking. For these classes, the English program is differentiated, extending, rather than just enhancing the core learnings to ensure the curriculum is more complex, abstract and creative. Summative tasks reflect this differentiation, and students who have been part of our extension in English can attest to its creativity and relevance. The opportunity to be part of this excellence group exists for approximately 50 students at each year level. Participation in this program is by invitation only.
The Honours Academy Program consists of the highest-performing academic students in years 11 and 12, twenty students from each year level. Each student is paired with a teacher who will be an individual mentor to the student for the two years of senior school.
The mentor(teacher) guides students to manage their learning independently through monitoring their performance and assisting them to gain greater insight into themselves as learners. Studies indicate that formal youth mentoring programs can promote positive outcomes, such as improved self-esteem, social skills and career development. Participation in this program is by invitation only.
Music Extension is a QCAA subject designed to cater for students with specific abilities in Music and contributes to a student's Overall position Score. It is an extension of the Senior Music course and offers the chance to specialize in Performance, Composition or Musicology. Music Extension is more challenging than the Senior Music course and is designed to provide students with demonstrated expertise in their chosen specialty and the opportunity to develop further their musical abilities. It is offered only to YEAR 12 students who study the parent QCAA Music course.
YEAR 11 Music is a pre-requisite for students wishing to take the YEAR 12 Music Extension Course. In YEAR 12 students retain English/Maths/Music and pick up Extension, therefore dropping one elective.
