Alexandra Hills State High School inaugurated a string program in 2015, which continues to grow and thrive. Students who have played a string instrument before and those who would like to start learning for the first time are invited to participate in this program.  The string program will work in the same way as the band program so please ensure you have read both the white section and the yellow section in the All Music Program Handbook to familiarise you with the details and expectations for participation.

Instruments being offered in the string program are:

  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Cello
  • Double Bass

There are some school instruments will be available to hire – this will happen in the same way as outlined in the Instrumental Music section of the handbook.

Student and Parent Expectations and Enrolment Agreement:

The expectations for students and parents involved in the string program are the same as those for students participating in the band program.  The same enrolment agreement form will be used – if students are participating in both programs only one form needs to be completed.

Ensemble Music:

Ensemble music supplied by the school needs to be treated as outlined in the Instrumental Music section of the handbook.

Lesson Music:

Students need to provide their own copy of the chosen method book if the instrumental music teacher wants to use this text in lessons.  Students will be informed if this is the case during their first few lessons.  Copies of scale books, technical exercises and small ensemble music will be issued to students in the same way as ensemble music and will be returned at the end of the year.
